Occupational Therapy Services

Our occupational therapists provide a range of services from interactive therapy designed to strengthen core muscles to helping students develop daily living skills like shopping and cleaning.  We also help individuals transition to college and increase their employment-related and independent living skills.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy can help young learners with a variety of necessary skills for the educational environment.  From handwriting skills to increase legibility to strengthening core muscles for proper posture in the classroom, occupational therapists use a lot of creativity in their therapy.  Their goal is to prepare the child to be well equipped for the classroom environment and daily life.

Occupational Therapy Evaluations

Our occupational therapists conduct full occupational therapy evaluations to help determine the level of occupational therapy that your student might require in order to be successful in the general education setting.  The results of the evaluation are likely to drive therapy techniques and can help your child qualify fot OT as a related service to their special education goals.

Daily Living and Safety Skills

Another aspect of OT is the introduction of daily living and saftey skills to individuals with disabilities.  We use real-world application such as shopping in local stores and cooking in our full service kitchen to teach our students.  Other exmpales include learning how to sweep the floor, load the dishwasher, use crosswalks safely, and communicate to ask for help.

Transitional and Career Skills

Transitional and Career Skills are an important part of learning and making the transitions from middle to high-school and high-school to college/adulthood.  Transitional and Career Training incorporates various aspects of independant living and skills that make you more employable such as time management, cash transactions, following taks list, appropriate attire/hygiene, etc.

Sensory Integration Therapy

Sensory integration therapy aims to help kids with sensory processing issues (which some people may refer to as “sensory integration disorder”) by exposing them to sensory stimulation in a structured, repetitive way. The theory behind it is that over time, the brain will adapt and allow kids to process and react to sensations more efficiently.

Sensory integration (SI) therapy should be provided by a specially trained occupational therapist (OT). The OT determines through a thorough evaluation whether your child would benefit from SI therapy. In traditional SI therapy, the OT exposes a child to sensory stimulation through repetitive activities.

The OT gradually makes activities more challenging and complex. The idea is that through repetition, your child’s nervous system will respond in a more “organized” way to sensations and movement.

“My passion is discovering what it means for each individual person to live their life to the fullest.
